Bromley is one of south-east London's larger metropolitan town centres, and the local job market is led by retail, healthcare, the public sector and offices rather than heavy industry. The Glades shopping centre, just off the High Street, and the surrounding stores generate retail and hospitality vacancies through the year, while the office blocks around Tweedy Road and Elmfield Road hold most of the white-collar work.

The largest single employer locally is the NHS. The Princess Royal University Hospital at Locksbottom, near Farnborough in the BR6 district, is run by King's College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and recruits across nursing, clinical, admin and support roles. The London Borough of Bromley is the other major public employer; the council moved out of the former Stockwell Close Civic Centre in December 2024 and is now based at Churchill Court on Westmoreland Road (BR1 1AS), near the town centre. At London Biggin Hill Airport, which the borough owns, business aviation is a significant employment site: Bombardier's service centre and more than 70 companies on the airfield employ aircraft engineers, ground crew and technical staff, with around 1,300 jobs across the site. Warehouse and trade jobs cluster to the east in the Cray Business Corridor around Foots Cray and St Mary Cray, the borough's largest industrial area. Many office and retail roles are filled through agencies, so registering with high-street recruiters alongside applying direct is common practice.

Transport: Bromley South is on the Southeastern line into London Victoria, with the fastest services taking around 16 minutes and most around 25, which also draws commuters who live elsewhere and work here. Bromley North sits on a separate shuttle branch line that connects at Grove Park.
