Job Description:

Good Afternoon,

I am currently representing Islington Council who are offering an initial temporary contract for a period of 6 months with a view to be extended or offered a permanent position for the right candidate at a rate  which is negotiable dependent upon experience

We are looking for a Revenues Officer this role will be based at: N1 1XR, 4 days remote and 1 day in the office

The right candidate will:

• Deal with correspondence and enquires for example, issue forms, letters and other documents and write letters and emails as necessary.  
• Deal with work in a timely manner ensuring that the section's targets are met. This will include dealing with specific target areas at different times of the billing or recovery cycle. Assist the team with all billing and recovery notices as directed to ensure these are accurate and that any required action is taken before further enforcement action(s). 
• Make robust payment arrangements in respect of Council Tax and Business Rates, monitor these and take any necessary follow up action. Establish and monitor payment arrangements within defined policies and procedures to maximise income to the Council and confirm acceptance/refusal of customer requests as required 
• Undertake tasks to promote improved collection performance as directed. For example, encourage take up of direct debit and electronic billing at every opportunity. 
• Check and update exception reports, payment arrangements, message codes and other reports as directed. 
• Maintain accurate Business Rates and Council Tax records. Managing individual accounts from information received by phone, mail, email or other departments 
• Process and review claims submitted for discounts, exemptions and all other reliefs ensuring that forms are completed correctly. Check that documentary evidence requested is correct and liaise with other councils as necessary 

We require the following:

• Knowledge of the regulations that govern local taxation, the identification of properties that should be rated and establishing the correct charge payer to bill   
• Experience of complex customer service delivery dealing effectively and courteously with members of the public, especially irate tax / rate payers in a public service environment
