Head of Commercial

South East London

£100,000 – £140,000 + Car Allowance or Company Car + Bonus

The Opportunity

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Head of Commercial to take ownership of the commercial function within an established and growing construction business based in South East London.

This is a key leadership role for a commercially astute Head of Commercial who can shape and drive commercial strategy, strengthen processes and reporting, and provide high-level commercial leadership across the business.

The Role

Reporting into the senior leadership team, you will take responsibility for the commercial requirements of the business, ensuring strong commercial governance, financial control and effective contract management.

You will play a central role in protecting and improving commercial performance, while developing productive relationships with customers, suppliers, stakeholders and internal teams.

Key responsibilities will include:

• Developing and implementing the commercial strategy and associated reporting.
• Providing commercial leadership and input throughout the tender and negotiation process.
• Taking overall responsibility for contract management and administration.
• Managing commercial risk and ensuring contractual obligations are understood and maintained.
• Overseeing supply chain management and commercial administration.
• Driving effective cost capture, cost control and financial reporting.
• Establishing and maintaining robust commercial procedures, systems and reporting.
• Ensuring accurate and effective commercial records and document control.
• Providing commercial advice and guidance to the Directors and wider leadership team
• Building and growing the Commercial team as the business continues to develop.

About You

We are looking for an experienced commercial leader with a strong background in the construction sector, who combines commercial and financial acumen with excellent contractual knowledge.

You will be confident operating at senior level, able to influence key decisions and comfortable taking ownership of the commercial agenda.

The ideal candidate will have:

• A proven track record in senior commercial management within construction.
• Strong commercial and financial understanding, with the ability to analyse and interpret business performance.
• Extensive experience of contract management, administration and commercial negotiations.
• Strong knowledge of construction contracts, contractual obligations and dispute resolution.
• Experience drafting and managing effective contractual correspondence.
• Excellent analytical, communication and presentation skills.
• A strategic, creative and solutions-focused approach to commercial challenges.
• Strong stakeholder management and negotiation skills.
• The confidence and ability to influence at senior level.
• Experience leading, developing and ideally building commercial teams.
• Experience with commercial systems, reporting, document control and associated processes.

RICS membership or membership of another relevant professional body, or equivalent professional qualifications, is desirable.
